Wild Metal Fest - Wild, Wet, Burnt To The Ground!

To sum it up:

We rehearsed relentlessly for this show, our biggest and most important gig so far. We traveled from Norway with fantastic expectations and in good spirits. We got to Cancun, drove to the stage, got on stage, played for about 6 min 35 secs when the skies opened. Blistering sun for days, and then lady Fortuna decided to play a nasty trick on us. The power was cut so that nothing would short-circuit, and the rest of the festival was cancelled. We play one and a half song. Enslaved, Wild Demise and Sepultura did not get to play at all... We waited for a couple of hours, waiting for everything to hopefully dry (which it did not), and when the audience realized nothing was happening they decided to go ballistic, riot and burn the stage. By that time, all expensive equipment and all staff was driven away though...

Yeah.

HOWEVER!

The short time we where on stage only left us hungry for more. This is Mexico, and the passion and intensity of Mexican metal fans is just insane! The rain sent both us and them into a soaked frenzy, eyes rolled white, blind circle pits all round! We headed straight for the local biker club, Route 666, where a local band was shredding. Apparently, Cancun still wanted Dead Trooper to play, and by golly we did! 300 maniacs in a tiny club got served Norwegian Thrash Metal by the frustrated and slightly inebriated bastards. We thought we'd treat Cancun to some Brazilian bikini wax mayhem as well, and delivered Territory and Refuse/Resist by you know who. During our last song of the night (we thought) none other than Derrick Green himself appeared in the crowd! Pointing and smiling, he agreed to join us on stage(!!!) for a couple of awesome, yet slightly stumbling renditions of some immortal Sepulclassics, performed on a busted PA, a measly drumkit and a 15-watt guitar "amplifier". Holy crap, the crowd went apeshit!!

Mexico blew us away, totally. What an experience!! Beautiful girls, crazy fans, hangin' out with Sepultura, DRI, Enslaved, Keep Of Kalessin.... Words are futile in describing this trip.... Harald O is crazy, btw.

Mother Nature fucked us over, the metalheads of Cancun saved us!!!!

A wee update!!

Scheisse what a weekend! Three brand-spanking-new songs demoed and drinks all round!
Bokn & Birger attended Keep Of Kalessin Saturday and ran into the KoK-VIP! :D He loooves Dead Trooper and has a nice bowtie! Here are the results of the boys' celebrity hunt:

Note the difference in skin tone. I'd blush too if I met Didrik Solli Tangen!

On another note, we will be rounding up the recording of our snassy little EP very soon. Only vocals and some guitars remain, and we will enter the studio in two weeks! Watch out for nasty lyrics and some fantastic bastards on guest vocals.

Also, you HAVE to check out Dead Trooper @ Oslo Musikkfest Saturday, 05 June! We will perform 16 o'clock at Jacobskirken! The bill also includes fantastic friends of ours, Shot At Dawn
(www.shotatdawn.net) in addition to Waklewören, Breed and others!! Check it out here:

And by the way, if you haven't gotten a hold of Cynicist yet, send us an email right hear, dere;

Hamar and Geilo - Mini roadtrip!

So, last weekend we hit Hamar and Geilo! The trip to Hamar was free of problems, we arrived, set up our gear with the boys in
Wyruz, and had a great night. The place was packed, loooud crowd :D, a lot of chicks (Bokn had a hard time focusing his already short attention span with that many smoking females breasting about). This was our first gig with Wyrus, those guys are great! THE RED TRAIL! :D We played Reaping for the first time in a long time, and it felt good. The locals turned a little shy when we whipped out our version of the best Norwegian Punk-folk-necro-accordion-based-blues-pop song ever, XXL by DDE!! But they got stronger, chorus by chorus ;) Awesome!
This gig was fucking hot, both bartenders, bartendees and musicians sweated pretty good, the backstage was totally packed and cramped as usual, and the beer flowed free! What a night! Tnx Hamar, we love you! :D (Special tnx to Hein with the cock)

Next stop - Geilo

The trip was fucking cold and late and the night driving took its toll on drivers as well as vehicles, but we made it to Geilo at 6:30 in the morning, got a couple of hours sleep, and started rigging the drums. The stage was outside, in the freezing Norwegian winter, on a truck... The PA-system was like your average car-stereo, but soundman Rolli worked his magic, and did his best despite dastardly distortion and frantic feedback. Of course, it didn't take long for the skys to open and "bless" us with a long, snowy kiss. The white magic filled the TWO monitors we had, thus restricting movement of the speakers, thus removing any presence of instruments as well as vocals on stage. Yeah. If it wasn't for the gang of ten year-olds occupying the stage with their relentless dancing, headbanging, interrogation about guitars and plectrums between songs, (throughout the entire set!!!) I am not sure what I would have felt about this one... But THE KIDS SAVED US!!!! Gotta love the kids!!! By the way, this was not a "traditional" Trooper-gig, we played 50/50 covers (including Jokke, AcDc, Twisted Sister and Bon (never again) Jovi) and originals. So now you know...

All together, this weekend kicked ass! Rolli and Bokn even expanded our vocabularies with the following words: Kwegga, Schlubb and Møs. Contact Bokn for translation.....

Last, but not least; Bokn is the best drummer ever..... Tnx Bro.

Till next time!
